New Sections!

Hey kids, we've got two new sections in our online shop. First up, we have "5 dollars or less," which is an assortment of jewelry, accessories and clothes. Some new stuff, and some that's been on the site for a while:

Our other section is brand new, as we're branching out into housewares and knick knacks. This is where we keep the kitsch:

Take my breath away

We've got some pretty new things in our Etsy shop this week. We're expanding into vintage lingerie, and here's a taste of some of the things we've put up:

Some pretty new pretties

Our far-traveling jewelry supplier Reid came 'round the shop last week and we had a special showing of some of the amazing pieces he's got his hands on in the last month or two. We're loaded up with some beautiful new silver and precious stone jewelry, including earrings, rings, pendants, and bracelets. We've got some very cool bold silver rings (like the flower one below) and some great stones, including arizona turquoise in green, blue, and magenta, as well as some great red coral and malachite. Here are a few of the bits and bobs we've got in the shop now.

When the going gets tough

As the winter season slowly winds down and the spring season begins, I feel myself quite excited to put up pretty summer dresses on our Etsy. Spring is in the air, today at least. The icicles are falling off my eaves as the sun slowly melts them. You can go outside without mittens on for the first time in a long time. Light bounces off the streets, wet with melted snow, so sunglasses are a necessity for the first time since September.

I'm also looking a bit sadly at our teal bomber jacket, which didn't find a nice home this winter. I don't know about other places, but it's still cold enough to wear it, so we'll keep it up for a while longer yet.

A more practical part of the winter season ending, of course, is that we pull off our old stock in the store and make room for all the new consignment and vintage coming in. Changing seasons is a chore (we have a big store) but it's also sort of like Christmas comes four times a year. What lovely things has this woman brought? Will it fit me? And of course, the spirit of giving tends to come up around season change, as well. Our unsold merchandise mostly goes to charities around town.

That's the nice thing about second hand. So many more people can get joy from these clothes.

Some pretty new dresses for you!

We've been pretty busy at the shop, reshooting some dresses that have been up for a while and putting up some new clothes. The thing I love about this job is I get to see all of these gorgeous dresses first before they go out into the world. I'm not going to lie, I keep a few to myself!

You may or may not notice, but Penny's hair looks *much* better in these ones. It got a bit shambolic on our last photo shoot, so I'm trying to keep things a bit more tidy here on out.

Meet Penny

Meet our newest model, Penny! She's a vintage mannequin, created circa 1965. She looks great for her age, don't you think? She's modelling some of our newest acquisitions:

Pretty Vintage 1970s Dusty Rose Cocktail Dress (Size 16-18)

Pretty Vintage 1960s Black Cocktail Dress (Size 18-20)

my, oh my. I'm seeing the potential.

This faux snake-skin clutch sailed in on a puff of cocaine and hubris back in the late 1980s. She made a killing in The City and retired in 1990 to sunnier climes. She's been sipping mojitos for the better part of two decades, but with this global recession on, she just knows there's a killing to be made in the markets for the girl with the right insider info. And she has the right info.

Low Rider

This pretty lady came to us after a few exhausting years on the New York social scene back in the 1960s. She wanted something of a quieter existence, just for a few years, but she's ready to go back out into the world -- preferably with someone who'll fill her with classy lipsticks and scandalous diaries.

Well, after a long hiatus...

We're back! And we have some pretty new things to show you!

This pretty little thing came to us after a few crazy nights at a party in suburbia back in the 1970s. She's a little tired, but she still glows from the inside. Mother of Pearl is like that.

These dudes had a grand old time on Wall Street back in the mid-1980s, but they got sick of the big city living and came to stay with us. They're ready to face the world again, and are looking for a nice home with a bit of excitement.

She's sipped drinks with Maharajahs and partied at Studio 54. She settled down for a little bit, but her wanderlust has kicked in again and she's looking to travel the world.

all I can say is that my life is very plain

Red Floral Draped Blouse

This exotic piece came to us from New York via LA via Honolulu. She's had a time of it. Snorting cocaine on 60-ft yachts and drinking pink champagne. She settled down to the quiet life only a few years ago. She's chemical-free but bored with the MidWest and wants a bit of adventure. Possibly in Europe...?

Am I Ulysses? No, but you are now, boy

This lovely cotton dress was conceived in the halcyon summer days of 1969. She grew up on a VW bus for the first five years, her parents finally settling down in South-Eastern Alberta to farm mushrooms. The normal kind. When she turned 18 she set out on her own journeys, recalling the lovely moments of her childhood. After travelling through the Far East, she settled in Saskatoon with us to take advantage of Saskatchewan's stellar Arts Board. She's wanting to keep on trucking, however.

smash the compass, burn the maps, I guess we'll be fine

gold jacket

This shiny jewel of a coat spent many a year foundering in Dolly Parton's wardrobe before we took her on. She rests contented in the vintage section of our shop, but we fear she's grown despondent without Dolly's sequins and rhinestones for company, and so we offer her for adoption to one of you who knows the true definition of fabulous.

and when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me

Leopard Print Blouse
Size 24

This leopard-print darling grew tired of the society dinners long ago and moved to relative obscurity in the wilds of Saskatchewan only ten years ago. Lately, her heart's been yearning for greener pastures. She's looking to get back to NYC, but will travel anywhere she might find new excitement.

new (to you!) coat

purple coat

This fluffy little mohair number was the secret daughter of Joan Collin's fur hat and one of her big-shouldered jackets (the hat won't name names, but we've always suspected it was that high-necked purple number). Stowed away in the Great White North for years, she's looking for her parents and needs a ticket out of Saskatoon. Would you be so obliging as to...?

new (to you!) belt

This lovely brass-and-pearl belt has seen better days, it's true. But its buckle still glints in the light just as it did when she was waiting outside Robert Plant's dressing room back in '78. She came to us not five years ago, tired of the so-called glory life of a rock journalist, ready to settle down. But she could not rest softly long: her wanderlust is awakened and she begged us to send her out into the world again.
